Aprilia as Smart City: new technologies for urban environmental monitoring
"Aprilia as Smart City" is a project developed by Terrasystem in 2014-2016 in partnership with Sistema and Cras Companies within the Local and Urban Plan of Development (PLUS) "Aprilia Innova", financed by the POR FESR program 2007- 2013 of the Lazio Region. The project is contextualized in the commitments undertaken by the municipality of Aprilia by adhering to the Covenant of Mayors and the need to draw up action plans for the reduction of CO2 emissions and to raise awareness on the themes of energy efficiency and use of renewable sources. The line of action on environmental monitoring technologies has led to the construction of innovative ICT infrastructure, consisting of:
- A network of monitoring stations with sensors for the measurement of meteorological variables and air quality, based on open hardware and low cost sensors.
- A continuous monitoring system of urban heat island with dynamic mapping of the phenomenon obtained by automatic processing of air and satellite remote sensing data.
- A system for continuous monitoring of traffic flows with estimates of pollutant emissions, through the installation of fixed detection stations.
- A campaign of measurement of emissions of climate-altering gases at urban by mean of the Eddy Covariance technique, also useful to calibrate the calculations model of CO2 emissions from traffic and other sources.
