INFONUT - Information System of the Lazio Hazelnuts
INFONUT is a geographic information system developed with the aim of providing support to the operators in hazelnut production regarding the planning of cultivation and marketing strategies. The pilot project was carried out thanks to a call for tender of the Plan for Rural Development of the Lazio Region 2007-2013. Proponent of the project, carried out by Terrasystem, is the organization of producers Assofrutti srl.
The objectives of the project were:
- Making available an effective software tool of monitoring and decision support to the operators of the production chain, integrating into a single archive various databases and thematic maps, including the maps of the hazel plots and of the farms, a map of the vocated areas for the cultivation, the characteristics of the plots, the quantitative and qualitative data of the production.
- Providing a common tool for the data management, directly and continuously updateable by both the producers organisations and the individual producers.
- Highlighting and mapping the phytopathologies of the hazel, the hardships of seasonal nature and the degree of suitability of land for the cultivation, creating new layers of information useful to support decisions.
The system was developed using open source software and its main components are:
- a PostgreSQL relational database with spatial extension
- a WebGIS interface implemented with Mapserver and Pmapper
- a Content Management System developed in php with graphical user interfaces in dynamic HTML for the complete management of the database
INFONUT has three user profiles that differ in the rights to view and modify data and available features:
- System Administrator with grants for managing the system users
- operator of the organisation with grants for the ordinary editing of data
- associate producer able to view its own data and public data and to submit new data to the system.
Features and tools:
- An interactive map of the project area with tools for the navigation, for the selection of cartographic layers and for querying the elements of the map. There are basic cartographic layers (physical and administrative features), a map of the parcels connected to the database, analysis maps developed specifically for this project (suitability, incidence of plant diseases, geomorphology, etc..) and a map of weather stations with links to their constantly updated data.
- Advanced search panel based on attributes of the plots (agricultural, cadastral and other attributes), with restitution of dynamic tables of results in javascript window and automatic zoom on the linked geographic elements.
- Tool to generate a document in a printable format (pdf) with a customisable map extract and a legend
- Database updating:
- graphical user interfaces for the cancellation, modification and insertion of new data by the data management operator, and for the validation of the information introduced by the producers;
- form to be sent by the producer with periodic data of their production, carried out works, agri cultural practices, incidence of encountered plant diseases, subscription of initiatives of the organization. - Analysis of data:
- interactive charts for the representation of statistics of quantitative and qualitative parameters of production;
- function for the calculation of aggregated values based on the parameters entered by the user
